Get to know Yuri Beckelman outside of politics in a new episode of Capitol Spotlight, a video and audio podcast from CNCT.
Yuri Beckelman is the Chief of Staff for Rep. Maxwell Alejandro Frost, the first Gen Z Member of Congress. A child to parents who were both heavily involved in labor unions, Yuri always felt drawn to public service. After his Hill internship in 2006, he became a Staff Assistant for Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi during her first speakership, where he learned to juggle quite a few phone calls at once.
Going back to his roots, Yuri worked for the AFL-CIO for some time before returning to the Hill to work for Rep. Mark Takano for nearly nine years. He went on to serve as Staff Director for the House Select Committee on the Modernization of Congress, where he became known for his innovative mindset and desire to create systemic changes. Yuri continues to innovate in his current role with Rep. Frost.

More about Yuri π»
In addition to being a Chief of Staff, Yuri describes himself as a "maker" of many things. In this episode, he shares that he enjoys seeing things to completion at home because, on the Hill, you often don't get to. One of Yuri's favorite activities to exercise his creative muscles is brewing beer.
πΊ Yuri picked up brewing beer after his wife, who also happens to be a Chief of Staff on the Hill, bought him a beer-making class certificate as a gift. He makes many different kinds of beers, but one of his favorites he's made is his Christmas brew.
An innovator in Congress as well as in beer, Yuri and his wife's at-home brews have won three awards from the Capitol Hill American Homebrewers Association competitions.
If you're looking to connect with someone who would love to hear about your ideas and passion projects, you should talk to Yuri Beckelman. Also, you might be able to get some beer from him too.
